A demystifying induction into the commercial aspects of the Film and TV industry. Practical application to your individual circumstances and the sector issues, with a personal career focus.  An ideal opportunity to develop a project. Initial sessions are in a small seminar group lead by the Course Leader to be followed by individual tutorials.

Who is it for:

  • New Producers, aspiring Producers and sector migrants (e.g. TV to Film), with at least two years industry experience, but not as a producer
  • Writers, Directors, development, technical or production personnel that are seeking to develop a more entrepreneurial approach to their current career
  • Project partnerships and collaborators incorporating the roles above

Aims:

  • To provide a greater understanding and perspective of the commercial context in which Trainees deliver their services
  • To assess and identify areas for improvement in individual business management skills and knowledge
  • To inform and assist in career development and direction. To inform and improve any Project plans and marketing strategy

Outline:

A grounding in the Film and TV Business environment emphasising aspects currently affecting employment and project finance prospects:-

  • industry structure (the Employment Chain)
  • the project Financing process and sources (including Film Agency Wales, Welsh IP Fund, S4C etc.)
  • basic Business Affairs (Copyright and Industry Agreements)
  • detailed assessment of project or career strategy identifying subsequent mentorship requirements for individual trainees

Outcome:

Armed with a better understanding of the commercial realties that affect their career or projects, candidates will be empowered to:

  • pursue a more focussed and effective engagement with the industry
  • strengthen their career and project prospects with a more informed and clearly identified path forward
