This two day course will encourage junior staff to start building on their capacity for making effective decisions regarding the future of their company. The workshops are intended as another step in both the development of the company and the worker. It will develop leadership and management skills in the areas of business analysis, working effectively with people, budgetary control and proficiency in managing change. This course can be used to engage staff in the strategic decisions of the organisation and to focus staff appraisals.
Senior executives will be asked to nominate staff for participation in this workshop. As this is an introductory course to the concept of management and business no previous managerial or business experience is required. However, suggested criteria for nomination will be:
• That the person is at a relatively early stage of their career
• Has an established presence in the company
• Has some experience of project management
• Has good technical knowledge but lacks business skills
• Shows commitment to the aims of the programme.
The ultimate aim of this course is to assist workers in an early stage of their career to begin their journey to management and leadership positions while also securing the future of the business in a competitive landscape.
Dr Caitriona Noonan
Caitriona Noonan offers experience in business development, marketing and international trade. She worked as a market adviser in the area of digital and broadcast media for Enterprise Ireland, the trade development agency of the Irish government. In this role she assisted Irish companies as they entered the UK audio-visual market. She also worked with new start-ups and established companies to help them develop their business and marketing strategies.
Caitriona holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow where she studied in the Centre for Cultural Policy Research. Currently, Caitriona is lecturer in Media, Culture and Communication at the University of Glamorgan. She has completed a number of research projects on the UK television industry and her research interests include: media business and economics, media and cultural policy, broadcasting history, media management and professional identity, and place & creativity.
