This course is aimed at any of you Media Professionals who’ve ever had a great idea.  Have you left  an idea in your bottom drawer because you don’t know how to turn them into a TV programme or series? Or maybe you’ve been too scared to show your idea around the industry because you’re convinced that both you and that idea will get ripped off. Well, worry no more…

Over the course of two day long workshops and additional mentoring sessions, run by a long-established and experienced media practitioner, this Skillset Academi+ course helps you to confront your fears over your intellectual property. The course suggests different methods of promoting your project, enabling you to decide when to condense your idea into a single paragraph, and when it’s better to expand the idea into a complete programme bible.

You’ll also learn how to identify the Next Big Thing, and understand why commissioners fall in love with some concepts, and bounce back other ideas. As you pitch, promote and protect your ideas, you’ll learn and use Tips and Techniques from the Media Toolbox that will hopefully progress your idea from flash of inspiration to final commission.

Pitching, Promoting and Protecting Projects is a course aimed at experienced professionals in the media industry who have:

  • experience of working at a mid to high level in diverse branches of the media
  • knowledge of the media in general, and the specific area of their idea in particular
  • a project or idea which, whilst unfinished, is felt to deserve a wider audience

Pitching, Promoting and Protecting Projects includes
  • a flexible mentoring programme, run over the course of 2 x One Day Workshops
  • a detailed round-table discussion of projects
  • an analysis of strategies and techniques for pitching and advancing projects
  • an understanding of when, where, and how to produce a sales bible for an idea
  • an awareness of the importance of protecting and how to copyright ideas
  • an evaluation of potential markets for ideas, from niche to primetime
  • an informed use of language in writing pitch documents or correspondence
